Both of those pairs of settings reveal the same map area, but the 2048x1 setting will take longer to process and generate a larger, more detailed map. I'm certain there's a way to do it on Linux and Mac as well, I just wouldn't know how.įYI, the in-game preview generator shows an area equivalent to a 1024 Preview Size and a 2 Preview Scale, or a 2048 Preview Size and a 1 Preview Scale. It's not super simple and requires a few extra steps on your PC to get set up and to run, but all of the instructions are there. With all that said, I created a tool to make this easier. And because I play Factorio.I needed to scale this thing up! To generate lots of previews at once! So I started using the map preview generator tool that was mentioned in Friday Facts #200, which lets you generate previews for any size you like. And I want to know that for a larger area than is revealed by the in-game map preview. I'd like to plan from the beginning where I'll need to set up defenses, good choke points, a good direction to plan my base expansion where I won't run into a wall of water. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like a better idea of the terrain when starting a new Factorio map.
